Day #2 Los Angeles to Barstow, California

Today, April 15th at 7:15 am a radio broadcast was put out to all Los Angeles Police Cars that the Police Unity Tour Cross Country Ride had begun. It was overcast with a slight drizzle as the first riders departed from the LAPD Police Academy. The ride was tough for the riders having to climb out of LA and into the hills. This first group(Craig, Moose, Fred and SB)of riders toughed it out and got to the next group of riders at about 2500 ft elevation.
The second group (Pat, Rob, Dennis and Kevin) to ride started off with some pretty tough hills, climbed up to 3500 ft elevation, but eventually it became relatively flat and they were aided by a fantastic tail wind. The scenery along the route was stunning. Beautiful desert with the snow covered mountains in the background.
The final group ( Bruce, Nancy, Tony and Dawn) of riders had the same great tail behind them with rolling desert hills. Along the road we had a few flat tires and thanks to our GPS system we stayed on route.
All during the ride we carried the Specially Engraved Memorial Baton that we are taking to Washington DC to deliver to Craig Floyd, Director of the National Law Enforcement Memorial.
