Day #3 Barstow to Needles, California

Today we awoke to a beautiful 52 degree morning in the desert. At 6:30 am the first team, Pat, Rob, Dennis and Kevin departed from the Hotel. We got a little turned around and we were 20 miles en-route before support was able to locate us. The winds were again in our favor, however, we hit the worst 9 mile stretch of road any of us had ever ridden on. After some creative thinking we decided to jump on Interstate 40 (although "technically" we can't do that) and continue the route.
The second team, Bruce, Nancy, Tony and Dawn began their ride from Ludlow, California and moved along at a great pace. They had a few very long but gradual hills and then some really fast, 40 + mph downhills. Tony had flat #2 for the trip.
Group 3, Craig, Moose, Fred and SB started off in the Hot desert sun. We continued on Interstate 40, busy with Easter Day Traffic. Up a very long (15 mile) and gradual hill they went. When they crested the hill, Steve "Moose" Gottschalk could be heard yelling "Moose like down hill". Unfortunately another hill was ahead...but...they worked hard in UNITY and did it. The way down was a fast jaunt to the Hotel...all in all another great day for those involved.

I am happy to see that the "Jersey Guy" and his training wheels aren't slowing the pace for everyone else. Keep the wind to your back Rob!

This is an exciting story to follow. We are enjoying every piece of it, but are still looking for Shane's smiley face. :) Did we miss you? Keep on riding as this is for such a worthy cause. Looking forward to reading tomorrow's clip and seeing the pictures.
