Day #11 Amarillo, TX to Elk City, OK

At the Oklahoma Border...
Today the first group (Craig, Shane, Fred and Steve) started off from Amarillo about 7:00am. Trooper Dave Edwards from the Texas DPS Highway Patrol was again with us in the beginning. The team had a really nice tailwind for much of the ride. They some pretty bumpy road shoulders along the way but they finished their route at a great pace. They had 2 flat tires….
The second group (Bruce, Nancy, Dawn and Tony) began as the wind was truly a strong crossing wind. Working an echelon helped them to cut through it. Tony flatted early in the ride. They rode into some rolling hills as the day got hotter. It seemed like they kept turning left all day into the wind
The last group (Rob, Pat, Dennis and Kevin) was met at the Oklahoma border by Oklahoma State Highway Patrol Motor Lt. Steve Howell, Trooper Clint Riddle, Trooper Jeff Parker and Trooper Donald Kerr. The support given by these Troopers during the ride was awesome and truly appreciated. I have to say they have the coolest Police Motors we’ve ever seen, Suzuki Hybusa 1300 cc rockets! The ride was off the highway and through the countryside. Farm after farm was passed. The winds were at our back at times but the last 10 miles were tough rolling hills with the wind in our faces. The temp when we finished was 91 degrees.

We are so proud of all of you in what you are doing for your fellow man and your country. We read with interest and sadness for the families of those fallen in the line of dute.

91 degrees!!! Aren't you melting?

By the way, to Dennis and Kevin, somehow I don't think that Satish will authorize any new Hybusa's with all that money he's paying you guys to keep Amherst the "safest city in America".

Jenny

P.S. to Dad: got the sticks out today and am going back to work on Monday. Everything cool. Eric told Marilyn that I was just like you - tough!

Craig and Fred - Thanks for swinging thru Bubbaville and for the laughs. When we forget to laugh we have lost more than ourselves. And by the way Craig, the yogurt maker has arrived!!
