Day #13 Oklahoma City to Sallisaw, OK

Group 3 heads through the countryside OHP Motor Lt Steve Howell with his team of Motor Troopers and the Engraved Baton

Good Morning Oklahoma!

Today we awoke to 46 degrees with 16 mph winds out of the North. OHP Lt. Steve Howell and his guys (Troopers Medeiros, Riddle, Johnson, Gandy, Lanier and Weilert) arrived ‘bout the time the sun start coming up. Y’all get that? That’s Oklahoma for: They arrived at 6:15 am. Do you understand? You can see we are starting to pick up the local accent around here.
Today is our longest ride thus far, 180 miles. The first group (Pat, Rob, Dennis and Kevin) started off at 7:00am and had the cold, wind and hills. Everyone fared well and finished strong.
The second group (Fred, Craig, Steve and SB) took off and although their group includes at Texan (Fred) the OHP Motors agreed to escort them. Along the way they ran into a 3 mile stretch of very rough road but handled it well. They finished on the top of a good hill. The third group (Bruce, Nancy, Dawn and Tony) took off towards Sallisaw. The route became less hilly, although still challenging. The scenery changed dramatically as we continued east. From the rocky brown tones of the West to the many shades of green seen in the East. We have now passed our halfway point in crossing the country, over 1575 miles down so far.

From a former LAPD officer who lives in Oklahoma: Be grateful for the mild winds from the north and be thankful they're not the usual 30 MPH winds that blow in a circle. And please tell Fogarty to pick it up and get out of my state. Love, Cooter

Hey Dad, (Mr. Officer White),
The kids are having way too much fun looking at the blog. We've been checking it out every morning, and each day they pick out their favorite pictures to set for the backgrounds on our computers. (I think I have created a monster...j/k)
So now everytime I look in the direction of the computers I see all of your lovely faces. To be honest it was a bit creepy at first. Hope you are enjoying our posts, the kids are writing them personally.
Lots of love...K.B.

Dad (Dennis)-

The picture of you riding uphill looks tough. You look tired. I think you're too old for this. Although Jenny was right, you're going to outlive us all. I love you and miss you, and so does mom. Except she likes me better because I don't wake her up all night complaining that her snoring wakes me up..and I don't even wear ear plugs! Talk to you soon

Hey Bruce, Nancy and others, be careful of the Armadillos, they will be everywhere, running, smashed in the road etc. And Bruce keep an eye out on the back roads for old trucks and tractors.

Love, Mom & Dad

Ya'll are just awesome! As a native Los Angeleen, ya'll are doing a great job from riding a bike out of LA through the hood and tackling the heavy winds here in Oklahoma. Good Luck looking forward to seeing you in D.C.

KB and Class,
Glad to see that you are having fun following us along the road.
Did you know that Turkeys actually fly? I didn't until a flock flew across the road in front of us. We have had a great time with just seeing the different wildlife that abounds through out the country. The other day we saw a Emue running through a field, who knows where they are from?
Keep watching us. Soon we will be in NJ and then on to DC and the memorial. Have you guys looked and the web site for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial yet?
Craig
