Day #4 Needles, CA to Seligman, AZ

Today the day started out with a nice 59 degree morning. We, Craig, Dennis, Fred and Kevin headed to Interstate 40 and the ride was not too bad. Slight head wind and a couple of mild hills. We ran into some road construction and Dennis had a slight spill as he rode onto a soft shoulder. A couple of scrapes but he is a-ok! After the morning ride 4 of us headed by car down to Scottsdale Police Department for a 3:00pm ceremony. The Memorial ceremony went very well. Chief Rodbell and Mayor Mary Manross were in attendance along with other local Police Officers. A Bag piper opened up with God Bless America and in marched the Honor Guard. Lt. Frank O'halloran opened with a short speech. After speeches by the Chief, Mayor and Craig White, Craig presented a Specially Engraved Memorial Baton to Chief Rodbell. Dennis Dempsey then read off the names and end of watch of all Officers killed in Arizona in 2005. Included was the Scottsdale Officer, Sgt Hontz, killed in 2002. Special thanks to Frank O'halloran for helping make the event a success.
The second group, Rob, Pat, SB and Moose started off and soon after went into some pretty long and tough hills. They gutted it out and did a great job. Some long descents were fast but they had quite a bit of debris along the way. Rob's fellow Officer Kate Proscia and Det Berger who were in Kingman, AZ on vacation came out to give support along the way.
Group 3, Bruce, Nancy, Tony and Dawn did very good with last part of the ride. Hills and Quick descents were the order of the day. Bruce and Nancy blew a tire right near the end of the ride, but they are ready for tomorrow morning. Along the way LAPD Sgt Dayrl Belthius and his family spotted us on the Highway and stopped to give support, Greatly Appreciated!
