Day #8 Albuquerque, NM to Santa Rosa, NM

Craig, Dawn, SB & Fred

Today we got to sleep in, having a shorter route ahead, so we decided to leave at 9:00am. The first group (Bruce, Nancy, Tony and Dawn) took off and immediately we into hills. A rather long climb through a beautiful canyon got really steep near the peak. They did an admirable job, gutting it out and making it to the long downhill. Along the way a Bernalillo County Sheriff Deputy stopped by to give some support. He showed us the location where Deputy James McGrane Jr. lost his life on March 22nd of this year. He said that his fellow Officers appreciate what our Team is doing .
The second group (Rob, Pat, Dennis and Kevin) headed out to a few pretty good "roller" hills. On one of the downhills a speed of over 46 mph was obtained by the group. It was our shortest ride so far but pretty enjoyable.
The final group (Craig, Fred, SB and Dawn) took off to a mostly downhill ride. Dawn rode a second time for the day because "Moose" had some trouble with the local water. Along the way they ran into a newly milled shoulder that was bone "jarring" for a while. All in all it was a great day with ideal conditions. 4 more flats for a total of 25 so far.
All the riders especially Tony from the California Highway Patrol want to thank all the Truckers for giving us room along the highway. We appreciate it.

BOB AND I ARE REALLY IMPRESSED WITH THE RIDE AND ALL THE ALTITUDE YOU ALL MUST CLIMB. MUST SAY YOUR WIND MASK IS REALLY DIFFERENT. FROM ALL THE COMMENTS YOU ARE RECEIVING IT SEEMS ALL THE LAW PERSONNEL ACROSS COUNTRY APPRECIATE WHAT YOU ARE DOING. I KNOW YOUR BUM MUST REALLY BE SORE BUT AT LEAST YOU'RE NOT ON A HORSE. HOPE YOU ARE FEELING BETTER AND ARE BACK ON THE RIDE. TOMORROW IS YOUR DAY OF REST, SO BACK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN.
REALLY PROUD OF YOU AND THE OTHERS.

Dearest Derf, It's not that easy to pay attention here in Oklahoma. However, for something as monumentous as this, even we can slap ourselves and get with the program. This is getting addictive. Checking in on you every day and seeing how that day unfolds for you all and for those you interact with. We love you and hope that Moose is okay, too. (Derf, you should share your Mexico food poisoning story: the junk food king--you--had the least problem of all!) And Miss Magoo, you're a pretty good kid. Godspeed! XOXOXOX The Okies
